Yamaha refreshes Tracer 700 range

Tracer 700 GT

Yamaha has again revised its popular Tracer range.

For those of you who want to both get around the city with ease and journey cross country in comfort, that’s good news.

Following hot on the heels of the launch of the Tracer 900 GT+Y-AMT, Yamaha has announced a revised Tracer 700 that will be available in both standard and GT versions.

The Tracer range has grown into being a mature and well proven sub-brand within the company’s offerings.

This will be the third iteration to be made since the first one came to market way back in 2014.

While the 900 is still propelled by a triple cylinder engine, the 700 is, and has always featured a CP2 parallel twin.

Real world riding

tracer 7Because that 700 motor is so light and easy to cut through traffic on, its touring capabilities are more than complimented by its dynamics when it comes to powering through the daily commute.

That engine makes 74 bhp – or 48 in the lower powered version – but more importantly, it makes 67Nm of torque.

In a bike that weighs in at 197 kilos with a full tank these are numbers which confirm its ‘rideability’ in the real world.

But it is the bike’s touring capabilities that makes it stand out.

The GT version is the one to have.

While it’s the same weight and power as the standard bike, it comes perfectly specced for touring.

GT’s extras tonic

Tracer 700The extra bits include cruise control, a more comfortable seat, heated grips, a pair of panniers and a taller than standard screen.

There’s also a chipped throttle control system. This allows the rider to tune or tailor the bike’s traction control and throttle response.

All of this sits in a revised, rather than new, chassis that features a swingarm that’s longer than the previous model by a healthy 40mm.

In addition, a remote preload adjuster for the rear means that the bike can be adjusted for full luggage and/or a pillion passenger.

This is complemented USD forks on the front end.

Lightweight electrics include LED lights as well as a TFT screen which facilitates navigation, music and call screening via a Bluetooth connection to the rider’s phone.

The new Tracer700 will run you €12,999 and be available from the end of July. This will allow you to run it in and get the 1,000 Km service done in plenty of time for Celtic Horizons’ guided tour of the North West in September…!
