Ireland’s very favourite road race, the Isle of Man TT is running from Monday May 25 to Saturday June 6 this year.
This follows the Cookstown 100 at the end of April and the North West 200 in early May.
For a number of years the RST brand has been closely associated with the races as it’s the Official Safety Partner of the TT. This year will be no different.
No different, that is, unless you count the fact that company are putting their very own official team together.
And the star of the show will be none other than Ian ‘Hutchy’ Hutchinson.
The racer has no fewer than 16 TT wins under his belt and shows no sign of dropping his winning streak anytime soon.
This year he will, once again, be using BMW machines in both the Superbike and Superstock races.
Road racing has long been the proving ground for machines, riders and their kit.
One of the brands that made the TT and, by association, the full Irish calendar ‘it’s own’ are Arai helmets. A staggering 80% of competitors in the TT wore them at one point.
RST are now determined to prove that they’re the best in the world.
To this end they’ll be worn by one of the best riders in the world and complimented by the globe’s best third party components.
As a brand, RST have been at the forefront of race clothing technology.
They’re partnered with French company, In&Motion on the airbag front and use armour from D30.
These are serious players in PPE and won’t just work with anyone.
Also in the mix are EK Chains, Motul, PBR Sprockets and, of course, Arai helmets. The fact that they’ve chosen to go with RST speaks volumes about the brand.
What is very significant is the fact that this is the first time RST has run its own team at the TT.
While they’ve been worn by more and more competitors in the last few years, now, apparently, is when the company wants to model its kit on the podium.
