REV’IT! wraps protection in casual cool

Our in-house fashion guru is this week offering advice on how you can protect flesh and bones, whilst rocking a Clooney-esque casual chic.

Or something like that.

It’s Paul Browne in the changing room, checking out REV’IT!’s mix of body fortification and boho coffee shop style.

Casually-styled motorcycle Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) has been a thing for a number of years now, with most of the big brands having something to offer.

Knox, in particular has made its mark having, it appears, been first off the grid to produce this kind of kit.

Now Danish company, REV’IT! has thrown its hat into the ring.

This kind of gear could be referred to as a ‘crossover’ of protective motorcycling clothing wand casual wear. Tough enough to survive a bodily skid yet casual enough to wear while drinking a latte on the southside of Dublin.

Armoured protection

REV'IT! Altair H20Snuck into the design of REV’IT!’s Altair H20 is all that we riders could want from a bike jacket.

It offers protection in the form of AA impact-abrasion rating and CE-level 1 SEESMART armour which is located in all the right places –  elbows and shoulders – with room for a back and chest protector.

It’s also waterproof thanks to the company’s own hydratex fabric and deployment of a YKK Aquaguard zip as the main opener.

With this gear being inspired by the kit that real latte drinkers on the ski slopes of Europe wear on their adventures, it also looks the part.

The Altair H20 also features a bit of alternative cool that you might be familiar with from other stylish bike gear brands, notably Alpinestars.

While it appears there are two pockets on the front there is, actually, only one.

Rather, what looks like the top pocket is actually a cleverly designed vent that is held either open or closed with magnets. This is complimented with a second vent on the back of the coat.

All good in the hood

REV'IT! Altair H20The hood is also a really nice touch when it comes to capturing that ‘urban cool’ look.

There are more and more companies producing protective kit that looks like casual clothing.

This can only be a good thing as so many riders avoid wearing good gear, particularly when commuting through the city and on the way to work.

Traditional motorcycle clothing is just too cumbersome and getting changed into more suitable office wear in the toilet isn’t something to be endured on a regular basis!

REV’IT! Clothing is available in Ireland from Danfay Newlands where the Altair H2O jacket is offered in Sand-Sand and Blue-Blue colours, with sizes from small all the way up to XXXL.

They’re priced from €269,99.

You’ll also find the rest of the REV’IT! range in store.
