Ready for an adventure?

ABR Adventure Bike RiderPaul Browne is ready for an adventure.

Who would’ve guessed he’s set to find it in Warwickshire, a UK county more famous for Shakespeare and the genteel game of golf, than, well, actually having fun.

It’s no big secret that adventure motorcycles are now the biggest selling segment in the big bike market.

In a world where sports bikes are increasingly being bought by riders for a specific purpose – such as track day use and touring machines – tall tourers are cutting a much larger slice of the motorbike cake.

Unsurprisingly, many of the big manufacturers have boarded the adventure train.

These include, but are not limited to, BMW, Ducati, KTM, Triumph, Husquvarna, all the Japanese marques as well as whole host of new Chinese bikes include Kove and CF Moto to mention a few.

Even Harley have one.

ABR UK OK

Most of these companies will run their own training and/or brand specific events, but for the last few years they’ve all come together at Adventure Bike Rider, or ABR to give it its common name.

This UK festival runs from the 26th to the 28th of June this year in the wonderfully titled Ragley Hall Estate in Warwickshire.

Like a lot these big festivals the entertainment, food and accommodation as well as entertainment are part of what’s on offer.

There’ll be a smattering of ‘superheroes’ from the adventure bike riding world, as well as pretty much all of the big brands offering a host of machines and all the aftermarket bits and pieces.

Travel companies and insurers will be on hand to help with planning your very own “Great Escape”. Not to mention tyre manufacturers. who’ll be only too happy to talk about their products.

For the ride

Meanwhile there will actually be some riding to be done!

If, like 90% of adventure bike riders, you’ve yet to turn a wheel on as much as a gravel driveway, then you’re in luck. There are several trail rides including the Bridgestone and the TRF trails, all accompanied by professional guides.

You can book tickets at www.abrfestival.com and Stena, Brittany and Irish Ferries all sail from a host of ports to the UK.

Flying in and renting a bike is always an option but the rest of us could get all ‘judgy’ and such!

See you there.
