If there’s one thing that’ll make our anti-social scribbler social, it’s a motorcycle show.
I have to admit that, in spite of being one of the most ‘human averse’ people on the planet, I do like going to bike shows.
As an annual visitor to both the EICMA show in Milan and Birmingham’s Motorcycle Live, I actually like to see some people – only some mind you – and check out the latest bikes that I absolutely need.
However, ever since the Irish Motorcycle and Scooter show was so cruelly discontinued, I haven’t had the pleasure here at home.
Now thanks to a group of people who are even more socially challenged than I am, the Motor Cycle Ireland Short Circuit committee, there’s now a new show coming to Ireland this March.
MotoXpo, is now Ireland’s national motorcycle show and it will take place at Punchestown racecourse in Kildare.
A big part of the decision to hold a show here was the sheer volume of space available, as well as the fact that it’s on the county’s motorway network.
That and there’s a whole lot of free parking and the facilities are state of the art, as they would be, since our horsey cousins have so much money they don’t know what to do with it!
The bit that I’m looking forward to most is the live action arena.
That’s as well as trials shows, pitbike racing and there’s even a rumour that one of the world’s best-looking stunt riders might just be making a return.
Listening to the country’s racing community being interviewed is always good fun, which is why Rhys Irwin (right) and Brian McCormack will be sharing some great stories with Steven Davidson from the stage.
My dear friend and track riding mentor, Nicole Lynch, will be on hand to present a who’s who of women in motorcycling. Suggestions that she’ll be bringing a collection of all the race leathers that’s she’s trashed over the last few years are just that, suggestions.
Ger Conlon, a living legend in the world of custom bike building, will be in the house as will one of his unique machines.
He’ll also be hosting a number of workshops over the weekend.
Amongst the displays likely to grab most attention will be Classic Road and Race bikes which will be shown in the Classic Village.
Coming second in the eye-catching stakes will be the Road Race Legends, an array of memorabilia and bikes from a host of past road racers.
Another of the special guests will be Dave Molyneux, aka ‘Moly’. The legendary sidecar racer is the special guest in Sidecar Alley where there’ll be a display on the history of Irish sidecar racing.
Finally, no motorcycle show would be complete without all the bikes and associated products and services being offered for sale.
The Exhibition Pavilion will be where all the Irish motorcycle dealers and distributors will be on hand to present their wares, as will rider trainers, travel specialists and clothing experts and a whole lot more.
MotoXpo will take place on March 14th and 15th at Punchestown Racecourse.
Tickets are available now.
Best of all, I’ll be there and I’m really looking forward to delivering some ‘emotional honesty’ to all my long lost friends from the world of motorcycling. See you there, it’s going to be a ball!
