The Nightster is powered by a Revolution Max 975T engine which, with only 975cc displacement, may seem quite small for a Harley.
But it’s another take on the classic American V-twin and puts out a healthy 90 ponies. More importantly it produces 95 Nm of torque.
It does this by using variable valve timing, incorporating a bigger airbox and changing the shape of the intake velocity stacks. This all makes for a whole new experience from the most American of motorcycles.
The lighter chassis that compliments the engine even has an aluminium sub frame, along with Showa suspension.
The Nightster also dispenses with the feet forward riding position, giving the rider more conventional mid-set pegs and foot controls.
Adding to the balance is the fact that the fuel tank now sits under the seat while what you’d be forgiven for thinking was the tank, is actually an airbox.
An easy fix can reduce the power output to bring the motor back within the parameters set out for riders on A2 licences.
When it’s time to move up, the dealership ‘flick the switch’ and release all the bike’s power and torque.
Standard pieces include an Antilock Braking System (ABS). This is activated when needed on each wheel, separately, and is complimented by a Traction Control System which, if they so choose, the rider can disable.
A Drag Torque Slip Control System prevents the rear wheel from spinning up. It does this by adjusting the torque delivery.
All of these clever things are tailored to match power delivery through the bike’s three selectable power modes: Rain, Road and Sport.
The headlamp, tail light and indicators are all LED units, with the ‘clocks’ housed in a multi-function LCD display which sits on the bar riser.
Subtle, yet informative this includes a full media pack available via a smartphone and a comms set in the rider’s helmet.
Now, some three years since debuting this classy sportster, Harley-Davidson has launched a new Nightster Special.
This comes with a pillion seat, cruise control and heated grips, as well as a subtle but effective headlamp cowl.
Everything is wrapped up in a deathly cool blacked-out matt finish, including that Revolution Max motor.
While the bike normally retails at €18,695, Waterford H-D is offering the new Nightster Special with a €4,700 dealer support offer.
Doing the maths – or math in the manufacturer’s native tongue – that means you can pick up a brand new Harley-Davidson for only €13,995. If that tickles your fancy talk to Mohammed on 051 844200 or drop him an email.
Alternatively, drop by the dealer’s open day tomorrow to check out the Nightster Special and some very special offers on Harley-Davidson’s touring range.
