Some days it’s just not good enough to wear comfortable clothing that keeps me safe, dry and ventilated in the summer, yet warm in the winter.
Nope, some days I also need to look pretty damn awesome in my kit.
This task has now been made a whole lot easier thanks to my besties at Furygan releasing a new range of all-season adventure kit.
Their new Montroc is the jacket part and its spec list is impressive.
The list of third party suppliers of the bits that make it work so well are a veritable who’s who of brilliance.
D30 do the armour, Kevlar do the slide protection and it’s held together with Ripstop fabric and stitching.
Use is also made of Humax In&Out membrane.
All of these companies are well known for their products and have earned a place at the top of their game.
While the waterproof membrane is more than effective – even in an Irish summer – and the PrimaLoft thermals do a great job of keeping me warm, particularly on longer night time rides, it’s the practicality that really appeals to me.
Furygan use what they call DW-Fit. This makes for a perfect waist fit, rather like a BOA lacing system.
There are also four outside pockets and two inner. One of them is a cuff mounted credit card one, something that as a spoiled rider I find pretty much indispensable.
There is a full ventilation system and all of the layers can be stripped out and take up very little storage space on a bike or in a backpack.
But then they’ve additionally employed a very clever piece called the “Summer Flap”. On the main zip there is what looks like an inner lining with zips attached to it.
On closer inspection this is actually a band of 3D mesh. Open the main zip and close the inner flaps and hey presto I have a perfectly safe and perfectly wonderful ventilation system all the way down my torso!
This is really, really, clever and one of the features that, I find, does a great job of spoiling me as a rider.
Because Furygan are blackbelts at making race suits – they work with none other than Michael Dunlop – their kit incorporates high tenacity stretch panels of the kind that’s used in hi-spec leather and adapted to allow the new stuff to fit perfectly.
It’s styled to look very French and therefore very cool, the finish is excellent with subtle, yet effective reflective branding and the colours are fantastic.
I’m really pleased with mine. If you too want to look awesome, you can find out more at www.furygan.com.
In the meantime I’m parking up and heading off to my nearest hipster café where you’ll find me drinking Pernod and smoking Gauloises cigarettes…
