02 July 2026
Tomorrow is Independence Day and this year our cousins across the pond are even more excitable than usual.
Just in case you hadn’t heard from any other source, this year America, or rather the USA, is 250 years old and celebrates its’ independence on the 4th of July, tomorrow.
To mark this. the good people at Waterford Harley-Davidson, being purveyors of American motorcycles, are having a celebration.
This will consists of a number of things.
For starters though, July is test ride month at the dealership and a full fleet of new demo machines is available to take out for a spin, as well as some very tasty used bikes.
Getting out on one is for the ‘Harley Curious’ as much as it is for riders deciding on which bike to buy. All you need to do is make a booking with Mo and the bike you’re looking to ride will be waiting for you.
The shop will be having a clothing and accessory sale with some official H-D kit as well as gear from other brands on offer.
Meanwhile there are a number of things to be said for what is Ireland’s oldest the city.
It’s incredibly bike-friendly and the roads to take those ride outs on are rather epic!
My favourite is the one from Poleberry to the Strand at Tramore.
It’s only a short spin but the coffee is excellent and the ice cream justifies abandoning any reason to use a food tracker!
I’ll always wish the lads the very best when it comes to these events, and this one’s no exception.
I say that not least because there is one bike that I’m hope they’ll let me borrow for a few weeks.
They happen to have a Custom Vehicles Operations (CVO) Breakout.
As standard this is my very favourite Harley and one I rode for a season when it first came to the market a number of years ago.
But this one is really special.
It’s a 2016 model that still has only covered 4,600 KM, my average mileage in a month,.
It looks like it’s never seen rain!
It’s propelled by a 1,801cc v-twin, which in itself is pretty cool.
This is a Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam affair, with factory custom paint and fittings.
The paint is exceptional and details such as the gear and rear brake lever as well as the air filter add a real touch of class.
However, it’s the 240 section rear tyre is always going to be the one that defines this Harley so very well!
ABS, cruise control and keyless ignition are all standard and this one will run you €19,999.
But, like I say, don’t feel obliged to buy or test ride it as I know someone who’ll be only too happy to look after it for a few weeks…
Doors are open from 10am.
