Brabus beautifies SuperDuke Evo

Brabus SuperDuke Evo

If you’re Mrs Browne and still stuck for ideas on what to get the lesser half for Christmas, Paul’s helpfully dropped a large hint.

Admittedly your gift might require some family sacrifices, such as heating and eating, but he’s worth it right?

I know very little about cars, as several of my dear friends will happily testify.

I do, however, know what I like and when I grow up I want a Mercedes G-Wagon. That was until a few minutes ago when I saw the Brabus one. Now I want one of those instead.

Brabus is a German company that specialises in taking what’s already pretty exceptional and making something spectacular of it.

They have everything from a registration plate surround that will run you €826,89, to their own island off the coast of Abu Dhabi.

Brabus signs off 1400 R

Brabus SuperDuke EvoThe company also works with KTM on several bikes.

The latest of these is the Brabus 1400 R Signature Edition.

As standard, the SuperDuke Evo is pretty powerful with the company’s latest 1,350cc v-twin putting out 190hp and, even more impressively, 145 Nm of torque.

There are the standard five fuelling choices, cornering ABS, traction control, electronic WP suspension and Brembo brakes.

Now Brabus have taken this and used it as a base for a bike that’s limited to a production run of only 100 machines.

Black and blue. Mainly black

Brabus SuperDuke EvoFirst up, a few of the basics are looked after with the lack of a pillion seat and all of the standard bodywork going in the bin.

The latter gets replaced with carbon fibre.

Everything is black. It’s a Brabus thing that they like to call ‘Black On Bold’.

That which isn’t black is that carbon bodywork. This is dressed in ‘Midnight Veil’, a colour the company has, very cleverly created by infusing the black carbon with just a touch of blue.

The LED headlights are stacked one above the other, with a pair of vertical ones to each side of them, and framed in, you guessed it, more carbon fibre.

This is where the bodywork starts to ‘flow’ with the mudguard and that light surround leading back to the bikes airbox and tank. Details such as the way the calipers cooling ducts are incorporated into the mudguard are impressive.

Beauty in the eyeline

Brabus SuperDuke EvoEverything in the rider’s eyeline is bespoke and very, very, beautiful.

The straight bars are detailed with carbon fibre and even the caps on the clutch and brake fluid reservoirs are bespoke Brabus pieces.

The belly pan and tank are made from the same material.

But it’s the wheels that get me.

They are a triple spoked monoblock affair; think Dymag if they looked even cooler, were even tougher and finished in brushed alloy.

Piped up

Brabus SuperDuke EvoAs a rather special bike, the exhaust system on the Super Duke machine always seemed to let it down.

Not so on the Brabus. It has a bespoke dual-pipe exhaust that sweeps under the rear cowl and finishes the bike’s lines perfectly.

Even the seat is special.

It’s made from the same leather as the hand stitched seats on the soon-to-be-mine G Wagon. The leather is added to with a practical Dinamica microfiber. Both are embossed with Brabus logos.

Brabus bottom line

A standard Superduke Evo is €25,450 inclusive of taxes. The Brabus is a shade under €56,700 before adding VRT and VAT.

If you have that kind of money, it still makes more sense as building the bike to the same spec would cost even more.

To order yours, or his, Mrs Browne, stick a €1,500 deposit down at Two Wheels in Dublin’s Ballymount.
